How Our Professional Loggers Work
Our Oregon logging company goes above and beyond to save out, or not break, your trees during our land clearing and tree removal processes. Experienced timber fallers ensure that tree falling is done in the most efficient, responsible, and profitable way possible.
Building Lays
One way we work to keep your logs whole is to “Build a Lay.” This is the process of piling logs at one end of the tree to be felled. This keeps the log suspended in air to help save it out—an extra step that most loggers don’t do. Rieger Logging goes above and beyond to take this step because it’s a benefit to you.
Building a lay is important because most mills will pay you more money for a long log verses a short log. If the tree is saved out you have many bucking options, but only a few are optimal for you. If the tree is broken, you are left with shorter lengths—making your trees less valuable. Rieger logging will minimize this problem to maximize your profit.

Determining Profitability
The second most important person in our team of professional loggers is the processor operator. They run the machine that de-limbs and bucks the smaller trees into logs and determine how much money you will make on a log. If the tree is saved out, this professional logger has plenty of options if there is a defect in a tree or if a tree’s size gets small too fast towards the top. In these situations, it will benefit you to buck shorter lengths rather than longer lengths. The processor operator decides what length and diameter to buck the log, and in older timber, that can add up to a lot of money for you.
Maximizing Your Logs’ Potential
Our presence at every job site ensures that your logs reach their highest potential. With other companies, hired foresters, absent company owners, and uninformed process operators can run you the risk of losing out on profitability. At Rieger Logging, we are present and involved during each step of your land clearing, tree removal, or timberland management project. Our transparency and purchase agreements allows you to see how our decisions and combined decisions, will benefit you.
How our loggers work to get your logs in the highest bracket possible
The hired forester or the company owner will not be present when bucking questions arise throughout the day. Even if you can fit even 5% more logs into a higher bracket, that adds up at the end. You are putting all your trust in the loggers that they are maximizing each tree to its fullest potential and not just making logs.
The right balance of quality and quantity
When you move in and are outputting 20 loads a day, mistakes can be made on bucking certain logs just because of the mere volume that is created. You can’t get high quality if all your loggers care about is quantity. Rieger Logging is mindful of this and works to get the right balance of quality and quantity.
Rieger Logging Promise
At Rieger Logging, I personally process each tree and evaluate the grading done by the mills when the logs are delivered. We know of “niche markets” that want only top-grade materials, therefore maximizing your profitability while implementing environmentally responsible standards.
Cheaper Is Not Better
Most people think the logging process is like buying a car. The cheaper the better! What people don’t often understand is that each logging company does things differently due to their varying knowledge of falling and bucking. Companies with more experience and knowledge about properly falling and bucking trees lead to better results and higher profits. Rieger Logging is one of those companies. We have your best interest in mind when we evaluate the best way to fall a tree.
Not Just Boring Information
This may seem like a lot of boring information, but it’s very important to know and understand. Whether you have had a forester come in and oversee a project before or if you’ve had other logging contractors do work for you, every company looks at things differently. At Rieger Logging, we strive to give you the best possible outcome. This should be a fun, easy, and transparent process—not scary or intimidating.
